Use this interactive demo to learn how to create dynamic cell references across your Coda documents.

Quick summary

Referencing cells in Coda lets you create dynamic links between tables and documents that automatically update when source data changes. Use the @ symbol to trigger Coda's reference picker and link any cell in seconds.

Steps

  1. Navigate to your Coda document where you need to reference cells between tables.
  2. Type the @ symbol anywhere in your doc and begin typing the name of the cell you want to reference.
  3. Select the specific cell from the dropdown menu that appears to create a dynamic reference link.
  4. The referenced cell will appear as a clickable chip — click on it to see the source data.
  5. Your reference will now automatically update whenever the source cell changes.

📌 Why this matters

Referencing cells in Coda eliminates manual copy-pasting and keeps connected data accurate across documents and tables in real time. When a source cell changes, every reference to it updates automatically, reducing errors in collaborative workflows. This feature is especially valuable for teams managing linked project data, proposals, or reports inside Coda, where data consistency across multiple docs is critical.
