Use this interactive demo to learn how to connect and sync cells across multiple Smartsheet sheets.

Quick summary

Linking data between Smartsheets lets you create a live cell link so that updates in one sheet automatically reflect in another. Using the built-in Cell Linking feature in Smartsheet's Grid View, you can connect source cells across sheets without manual copy-pasting.

Steps

  1. In Smartsheet's Grid View, find and select the cell that contains the data you want to link.
  2. Head to the top menu bar and click 'More Options'.
  3. Select 'Cell Linking' from the available options.
  4. Find and choose the other sheet you want to connect to.
  5. Select the source cell that contains the data you want to use — you can select more than one if necessary.
  6. Click 'Create Link' to establish the connection.
  7. The data from one Smartsheet will now be linked to the other sheet and stay in sync.

📌 Why this matters

Linking data between Smartsheet sheets eliminates manual data entry and reduces errors by keeping information automatically synchronized across multiple projects or teams. The Cell Linking feature is especially valuable for organizations that maintain separate sheets for different departments but need a single source of truth for shared data points. By creating live cell links, teams can update one sheet and instantly reflect those changes elsewhere, improving accuracy and saving time. This capability makes Smartsheet a powerful tool for cross-functional project management and real-time data visibility.
