Quick summary
Mailchimp lets you add new audience contacts either one at a time or in bulk using file upload, third-party service import, or copy-paste — all from the Audience dashboard. Each method lets you assign tags, set subscription status, and organize contacts immediately after adding them.
Steps
- In the Audience dropdown menu, select All contacts.
- On the Audience page, go to Add contacts and choose Add a subscriber to add a single contact, or Import contacts to add in bulk.
- Fill out the email, name, address, phone number, and birthday for your new contact.
- Add relevant tags to categorize and organize the contact within your audience.
- Review the permission checkboxes and click Subscribe to save the new contact.
- For bulk upload, navigate to Audience > All contacts in the left column.
- Under the Add contacts tab, click Import contacts.
- Select Import from another service and click Continue to bring in contacts from an external tool.
- Choose the source tool and click Done to confirm the import source.
- Select Upload a file to import a CSV or TXT file of contacts, then click Continue.
- Upload your contacts using one of the available methods and click Continue to organize.
- Alternatively, select Copy and Paste and click Continue to enter contacts manually.
- Paste or type your contacts and click Continue to Organize.
- Select the target audience and set the subscription status for the imported contacts.
- Pick or create tags to categorize your imported contacts.
- Review all contact information and click Finalize import to complete the bulk upload.
