Use this interactive demo to learn how to pull live data across Coda docs using Cross-doc references.

Quick summary

Cross-doc references in Coda let you sync table data from one document into another, keeping information up to date without manual copying. Install the free Cross-doc pack via the Insert menu to reference any table from another Coda doc directly inside your current document.

Steps

  1. Open your Coda document where you want to add the Cross-doc reference.
  2. Click the Insert button in the top toolbar.
  3. From the dropdown menu, select Packs.
  4. Browse the available packs and locate Cross-doc — it lets you reference data from other Coda documents.
  5. Click Add to doc for free to install the Cross-doc pack.
  6. When prompted, select the source document and then choose the specific table you want to reference.
  7. Drag the selected table to your preferred location in the current document.
  8. Click Add to doc to import the data — the reference stays synced with the source document automatically.
  9. Your Cross-doc reference is now live and can be used like any native table in your document.

📌 Why this matters

Coda's Cross-doc feature solves one of the most common pain points in collaborative work: keeping data consistent across multiple documents. By letting teams reference and sync live tables from other Coda docs, Cross-doc eliminates duplicate data entry and reduces the risk of outdated information. This is especially valuable for product, operations, and project teams who need a single source of truth shared across different workspaces. With a free, no-code setup through the Packs marketplace, any Coda user can connect documents in minutes without switching tabs or manually updating spreadsheets.
