Use this interactive demo to learn how to filter Amplitude charts using saved cohorts as segments.

Quick summary

Amplitude's cohort segmentation feature lets you apply saved audience cohorts directly inside the Chart Editor to filter and compare user behavior. By selecting cohorts via the Segment By section, teams can instantly narrow chart results to specific user groups without rebuilding filters from scratch.

Steps

  1. Open Amplitude's Chart Editor and locate the Segment By section under the Segmentation tab.
  2. Choose the specific segment you want to use, then select its corresponding In Cohort option.
  3. Tick the checkbox beside each cohort you want to apply as a filter.
  4. Click Apply to confirm your cohort selections and proceed.
  5. The selected cohorts will now be active as segmentation filters inside your chart.

📌 Why this matters

Amplitude's cohort segmentation allows product and analytics teams to instantly filter any chart by pre-built audience groups, eliminating the need to manually re-enter complex user conditions. This makes it faster to compare behavioral trends across different user segments — such as power users versus churned users — directly inside the chart view. For data-driven teams, applying cohorts as chart filters reduces analysis time and ensures consistent audience definitions across reports. It is a critical workflow for anyone using Amplitude to run behavioral analytics at scale.
