Use this interactive demo to learn how to restore an archived Slack channel in a few clicks.

Quick summary

To unarchive a Slack channel, navigate to Channels via the More menu, search for the archived channel, then open its Settings and click Unarchive this channel. This restores full access to the channel and its message history for all workspace members.

Steps

  1. Click the More option from the Slack desktop sidebar.
  2. Click on Channels to open the channel browser.
  3. Search for and select the channel you want to unarchive.
  4. Click the channel name in the conversation header to open channel details.
  5. Choose the Settings option from the channel details panel.
  6. Click Unarchive this channel to restore the channel.

📌 Why this matters

Being able to unarchive a Slack channel lets teams instantly recover past conversations, decisions, and shared files without losing any message history. This is critical for organizations that archive channels seasonally or per project, as it ensures knowledge is never permanently lost. Restoring an archived Slack channel takes only seconds and requires no admin reconfiguration, making it a practical self-serve action for workspace members and admins alike.
