Use this interactive demo to learn how to turn off notifications in Microsoft To Do.

‍

‍

Managing your notification settings allows you to stay focused by silencing alerts for reminders or shared list activities that might interrupt your workflow.

‍

  1. On your Microsoft 365 main dashboard, click the App launcher in the upper-left corner.
  2. From the app list, select To Do to open Microsoft To Do.
  3. Click on the Settings icon (the gear) in the top right corner of the application window.
  4. Scroll down until you find the Notifications section.
  5. Toggle the Reminders switch to "Off" if you no longer want to receive desktop or mobile alerts for tasks with due dates.
  6. Adjust your Email notifications by toggling the "Off" if you want to stop receiving task digests in your inbox.
  7. Your newly updated notification preferences will now keep your workspace quiet and free from unwanted distractions.

📌 Why this matters

Disabling notifications prevents the constant mental switching between your current work and task management, which research shows can take up to 23 minutes to recover from each time.

Beyond reducing interruptions, this creates space for you to check your tasks intentionally rather than reactively responding to alerts. You maintain control over when to engage with your task list, leading to more deliberate planning sessions and better focus during deep work periods.
