Use this interactive demo to learn how to transfer Google Analytics account ownership to a new user.

Quick summary

This demo walks you through how to transfer ownership in Google Analytics by adding a new user with Administrator rights and removing the previous owner from Account Access Management. It is a step-by-step process completed entirely within the Google Analytics Admin panel.

Steps

  1. Click on Admin in the left pane to open account settings.
  2. Go to Account and select Account Access Management.
  3. Click Add Users to begin adding the new owner.
  4. Enter the email address of the new user.
  5. Assign Administrator rights to the newly added user.
  6. Hit the Add button to confirm and save the new user.
  7. Delete the existing user whose access you want to transfer.
  8. Hit Remove to initiate the removal of the old owner.
  9. Click Remove again to confirm and complete the ownership transfer.

📌 Why this matters

Transferring ownership of a Google Analytics account is a critical task when team members leave, agencies hand off clients, or organizations restructure access. Without a clear process, teams risk losing access to historical data or leaving former users with unnecessary admin privileges. Google Analytics Account Access Management allows admins to grant Administrator rights to a new user and safely remove the previous owner in just a few steps. Knowing how to execute this correctly ensures uninterrupted data access and maintains proper security controls over your analytics property.
