Use this interactive demo to learn how to rename lists in Microsoft To Do.

‍

‍

Renaming lists allows you to update your project titles as your goals evolve, ensuring your sidebar stays accurate and organized.

‍

  1. On your Microsoft 365 main dashboard, click the App launcher in the upper-left corner.
  2. From the app list, select To Do to open Microsoft To Do.
  3. Locate the list name you want to change in the left-hand sidebar.
  4. Click directly on the list name at the very top of the main task window to highlight the text.
  5. Type a new title to replace the old one and press Enter on your keyboard to save it immediately.

📌 Why this matters

Renaming lists keeps your workspace aligned with changing priorities and project scope. You might start with "Website Launch" but realize it's evolved into "Digital Marketing Overhaul" six months later.

Beyond simple organization, meaningful list names help you mentally categorize tasks and make quicker decisions about where new items belong. When colleagues share lists with you or you're managing multiple projects simultaneously, descriptive names prevent you from opening the wrong list and accidentally adding tasks to unrelated projects.
