Quick summary
Notion's built-in Timeline view lets you visualize project schedules and deadlines directly inside your workspace without any third-party tools. You can create a timeline from scratch using a slash command or convert an existing database, then drag and resize cards to adjust dates and ownership.
Steps
- Open your Notion page and access the three-dot menu at the bottom, use the /timeline slash command to insert a timeline block, or start from a pre-existing table and switch its view.
- Click on Timeline in the view-type selector to apply the timeline layout.
- Click New timeline to create a fresh new database or link an existing one to the timeline view.
- Review your newly created timeline — open individual cards to begin editing their content separately.
- Rename and customize each card to reflect the correct task, project, or milestone name.
- Drag cards along the calendar section to adjust dates and reposition items across the timeline.
- Drag card borders to resize duration spans and further customize your timeline to best fit your project needs.
