‍

‍

Here’s how to do it through plugins:

‍

  1. On your IntelliJ dashboard, go to 'Settings'.
  2. Navigate to the 'Plugins' section and search for 'GitHub Copilot'.
  3. Hit 'Install' to integrate GitHub Copilot with IntelliJ.
  4. After clicking the install button, select 'Accept' to continue.
  5. On the installation of GitHub, we would need to click 'Restart IDE' for the plugin to be enabled.
  6. Click 'Accept' to continue the action.
  7. On restart of the Copilot, we need to click 'Sign in into GitHub' to authorize your account with GitHub Copilot.
  8. Click on 'Copy and Open'.
  9. Fill up the code and click 'Continue'.
  10. To finalize the integration, click 'Authorize GitHub Copilot Plugin'.
  11. You're all set. The integration has been authorized.

📌 Why this matters

This integration transforms your coding workflow by providing AI-powered code suggestions directly within your familiar development environment. You'll write functions faster, discover new approaches to problems, and reduce time spent on boilerplate code.

The real advantage goes beyond speed—Copilot learns from your coding patterns and project context, offering increasingly relevant suggestions that align with your specific codebase. This creates a personalized coding assistant that adapts to your style while helping you explore programming techniques you might not have considered otherwise.
