Use this interactive demo to learn how to duplicate tasks in Microsoft To-Do.

‍

‍

Duplicating tasks is a great way to reuse a complex task structure—including its subtasks and notes—without starting from scratch. Here is the simple guide:

‍

  1. On your Microsoft 365 main dashboard, click the App launcher in the upper-left corner.
  2. From the app list, select To Do to open Microsoft To Do.
  3. Right-click on the task name (or long-press on a mobile device).
  4. Hover your mouse over Copy task to... near the bottom of the list.
  5. A secondary menu will slide out showing your available lists, such as Tasks or Work.
  6. The new copy will appear in that list, and you can then rename it or change its details as needed, and you’re all set.

📌 Why this matters

Duplicating tasks saves you from recreating recurring project templates, weekly checklists, or complex multi-step processes. Instead of rebuilding the same task structure repeatedly, you preserve all subtasks, notes, and formatting in one click.

This becomes particularly powerful when managing similar projects across different contexts—like onboarding new team members, monthly reviews, or client deliverables. You can maintain consistent workflows while adapting details for specific situations, turning your completed tasks into reusable blueprints that standardize your approach to similar work.
