Try this interactive demo to learn how to delete lists in Microsoft To Do.

‍

‍

Deleting a list allows you to remove entire categories of tasks once they are no longer relevant, helping you maintain a clutter-free sidebar.

‍

  1. On your Microsoft 365 main dashboard, click the App launcher in the upper-left corner.
  2. From the app list, select To Do to open Microsoft To Do.
  3. Locate the list name you wish to remove in the left-hand sidebar.
  4. Right-click on the list name (or long-press on a mobile device) to open the options menu.
  5. Select Delete list from the bottom of the dropdown menu.
  6. Confirm the action in the pop-up warning.
  7. Your newly deleted list will now be removed from your sidebar.

📌 Why this matters

Removing outdated lists prevents your task management system from becoming a graveyard of completed projects and abandoned goals. Beyond decluttering, deleting lists resets your mental workspace and eliminates the cognitive overhead of scanning through irrelevant categories every time you plan your day.

This becomes especially valuable when you're transitioning between life phases, job roles, or seasonal projects. A clean sidebar ensures you focus on current priorities rather than getting distracted by old commitments that no longer align with your goals.
