Use this interactive demo to learn how to delete completed tasks in Microsoft To Do.

‍

‍

Microsoft To Do lets you clear completed tasks to keep your lists tidy. Here is the simple guide:

‍

  1. On your Microsoft 365 main dashboard, click the App launcher in the upper-left corner.
  2. From the app list, select To Do to open Microsoft To Do.
  3. Select Completed to view tasks you've already finished.
  4. Click on the completed task you wish to delete.
  5. Click Delete task from the context menu to remove it permanently.
  6. Confirm by clicking Delete task to finalize the removal.

📌 Why this matters

Deleting completed tasks keeps your workspace focused on what still needs attention, preventing visual clutter that can overwhelm your planning process. Beyond organization, removing finished items creates psychological closure and maintains momentum toward new goals.

When completed tasks pile up, they can make your lists feel stagnant and create decision fatigue as you scan through irrelevant items. Regular cleanup also improves search functionality and load times, while giving you a clearer sense of progress as you tackle fresh priorities.
