Use this interactive demo to learn how to curve text in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to curve text in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To curve text in InDesign, first select the 'Line' Tool from the left toolbar and draw a line on your workspace.
  2. Select 'Pen Tool' → 'Add Anchor Point Tool' and add an anchor point in the middle of the line.
  3. Select the 'Direct Selection' Tool from the left toolbar, then drag a selection box around the middle anchor point of the line.
  4. Once done, Press 'Shift + Up/Down Arrow' to move the middle anchor point up or down.
  5. Select the 'Pen' Tool, hold Option, and drag the anchor point until the line curves or wave curves are formed.
  6. Use the 'Type Tool' → 'Type on a Path Tool' to type your text along the curve.
  7. To remove the curve line, select it, go to 'Stroke', and choose 'None'. The line will become invisible, making the text appear naturally curved.
  8. Once finished, you have successfully curved text in your InDesign project.

📌 Why this matters

Curved text transforms flat designs into dynamic, professional layouts that guide the reader's eye naturally. You can create compelling logos, eye-catching headlines, and sophisticated packaging designs that would otherwise require expensive custom typography or external graphics software.

The real power lies in maintaining full editorial control—your curved text remains live and editable, unlike converted graphics. This flexibility lets you make last-minute copy changes without rebuilding entire design elements, saving hours of revision time while keeping your creative options open.
