‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to create custom outline shape in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To create a custom outline in Adobe InDesign, go to the left toolbar and select the 'Pen' tool to add anchor points for the outline.
  2. Using the Pen Tool, click on the document to add your first anchor point.
  3. Add a second point, and notice that a line automatically connects it to the first point. Continue adding points until your custom shape is complete.
  4. When you reach your last desired point, click your first point (the starting point) to complete your custom outline.
  5. Your custom shape or object outline has been successfully created.

📌 Why this matters

Creating custom outlines gives you complete control over your design elements, letting you build unique shapes that perfectly match your vision rather than settling for standard geometric tools. You can craft logos, decorative elements, or complex illustrations that seamlessly integrate with your layout.

Custom outlines become vector objects that scale infinitely without quality loss, making them ideal for everything from business cards to billboards. This flexibility transforms you from someone who adapts designs around available shapes into someone who creates exactly what the project demands.
