‍

Learn how to enable and use org chart shapes in Lucidchart with these simple steps.

‍

  1. On the left-side panel of the editor, click Shapes to open the shape library settings.
  2. In the Shapes panel, find Org Chart and check the box so the shapes appear in your left toolbar.
  3. From the updated left toolbar, drag an Org Chart shape (like a manager or position box) onto the canvas.
  4. Arrange the boxes on the canvas by dragging them into place.

📌 Why this matters

Creating org charts helps you visualize reporting relationships and team structure at a glance, making it easier to identify gaps, redundancies, or communication bottlenecks. Beyond the obvious organizational benefits, visual hierarchies become powerful tools for workforce planning and change management. When you're restructuring teams, planning headcount, or explaining complex reporting lines to stakeholders, a clear visual representation eliminates confusion and speeds up decision-making. You can also use these charts to model different scenarios before implementing organizational changes.
