Use this interactive demo to learn how to create an arrow in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to create a curve arrow in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To create a curved arrow in Adobe InDesign, first use the Line Tool to draw a straight line.
  2. Go to the left toolbar and select the 'Pen Tool' to convert the straight line into a curved line.
  3. With the Pen Tool selected, click the center of the line and drag outward to form a curve. The direction handles will guide you in shaping the curve smoothly.
  4. Once the curve is created, go to the Appearance section and click 'Stroke' to view additional line options.
  5. Go to the Start/End Arrowhead options and choose your preferred arrowhead design. Adjust the settings according to your preference.
  6. You will now see the arrowhead appear on the curved line, indicating that the curved arrow has been successfully created.

📌 Why this matters

Creating curved arrows gives you precise directional control in layouts, diagrams, and infographics where you need to guide the reader's eye along a specific path. Unlike basic shapes or clip art, custom arrows integrate seamlessly with your design's stroke weights, colors, and overall aesthetic.

The real advantage lies in maintaining visual consistency across complex documents—your arrows will match your other line elements perfectly, creating a cohesive professional appearance that strengthens your design's credibility and readability.
