Use this interactive demo to learn how to build prototype flows directly in your Figma canvas.

Quick summary

Creating a flow in Figma lets designers link frames and objects into interactive prototypes without leaving the design canvas. By using the Prototype tab and the Add connection tool, you can define navigation paths and configure interaction settings in just a few steps.

Steps

  1. In your Figma design canvas, find and select the object you want to use as the starting point of the flow.
  2. Head over to the right-side panel and click the Prototype tab.
  3. Go back to the canvas and hover your mouse cursor over the selected object.
  4. Click and hold the Add icon attached to your chosen starting point, then drag it to another object in the canvas to create a connection.
  5. Once the flow is created, open the Interaction floating menu and configure the interaction settings to your liking.
  6. For further customization, return to the right-side panel and use the available options to make your desired prototype changes.

📌 Why this matters

Figma's prototype flow feature allows designers to turn static designs into interactive, clickable experiences without switching tools. Connecting objects directly on the canvas and configuring interactions through the Prototype panel reduces handoff friction and speeds up user testing cycles. Teams that master Figma flows can validate navigation logic and micro-interactions early in the design process, saving significant development time. This makes Figma an essential tool for UX designers who need to communicate design intent clearly to stakeholders and developers.
