Use this interactive demo to learn how to compress a PDF file in Adobe Acrobat.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to compress a pdf in Adobe Acrobat.

‍

  1. Visit Adobe Compress a PDF page.
  2. Click Select a file, then choose the PDF you want to compress.
  3. Wait for the file to finish uploading.
  4. Choose a compression level, then click Compress.
  5. Wait for Acrobat to finish compressing the file, then click Download to save the compressed PDF to your computer.

(Optional) If Acrobat asks you to sign in, log in, and continue to download the file.

‍

Note: Compress level affects the quality and file size of your PDF file.

📌 Why this matters

Compressing PDFs makes them easier to share via email, upload to websites, and store on devices with limited space. Large files often exceed attachment limits or cause slow loading times that frustrate recipients.

The real advantage goes beyond just shrinking file size—compressed PDFs maintain their professional appearance while becoming more accessible across different platforms and internet speeds. This becomes especially valuable when collaborating with clients or colleagues who may have varying technical constraints, ensuring your documents reach their intended audience without compatibility issues.
