Use this interactive demo to learn how to check the word count in your Adobe Acrobat documents.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to check word count in Adobe Acrobat

‍

Note: Currently, users cannot directly count words in a PDF doc.

‍

  1. Go to PDF to Word Converter.
  2. Select the PDF file that you want to check the word count for.
  3. Convert the file to a .docx file, then download it.
  4. Open the downloaded .docx file on your computer.
  5. On the status bar at the bottom of Microsoft Word, check the word count (and character count). Click the word count to view a more detailed summary.

📌 Why this matters

You need word counts for academic submissions, client deliverables, and content audits where precise documentation matters. Beyond meeting requirements, word counts reveal content density patterns that help you price writing services accurately and identify sections that may need expansion or trimming.

Publishers and editors often use these metrics to estimate reading time and printing costs. When you're repurposing PDF content for web or print, knowing the exact count helps you plan layouts and determine if additional content development is needed to meet target lengths.
