Use this interactive demo to learn how to change permissions in Adobe Acrobat.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to change permissions in Adobe Acrobat.

‍

  1. Open the PDF file where you want to change permissions.
  2. In the top menu, click File.
  3. Click Properties.
  4. In the Properties dialog box, click Security.
  5. Set the Security Method to your preferred option.
  6. Click OK.

📌 Why this matters

Changing PDF permissions lets you control whether recipients can print, edit, copy text, or add comments to your documents. You can also require passwords for opening or modifying files. Beyond basic security, this becomes powerful when sharing sensitive contracts, internal reports, or educational materials where you want to prevent unauthorized distribution or alterations.

Permission settings also help you maintain document integrity during review processes, ensuring collaborators can only perform the actions you've specifically authorized while keeping your original content protected.
