Use this interactive demo to learn how to adjust the DPI settings in Adobe Acrobat.

‍

‍

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to change the DPI in Adobe Acrobat

‍

  1. Open the PDF file where you want to change the dpi.
  2. Click File, then click Save as Other, then Optimized PDF.
  3. Select Images in the left menu.
  4. Under Color/Grayscale/Monochrome Image downsampling, set the desired DPI.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Save your file.

📌 Why this matters

Adjusting DPI lets you balance file size with image quality for your specific needs. Higher DPI preserves crisp detail for printing, while lower DPI creates smaller files perfect for web sharing or email attachments. Beyond simple compression, changing DPI actually rebuilds how images are stored within the PDF structure.

This means you can rescue oversized files that clients struggle to download, meet strict upload limits for document management systems, or ensure your PDFs display quickly on mobile devices without sacrificing readability where it counts most.
