Use this interactive demo to learn how to apply a layer blur effect in Figma.

Quick summary

The Layer Blur effect in Figma lets designers apply a customizable blur directly to any selected layer using the Effects panel in the right-side Design tab. In just a few clicks, you can select a layer, choose the blur type, and dial in the exact blur intensity you need.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the left-side panel and click the specific layer you want to blur.
  2. Go to the right-side panel and tap Effects under the Design tab.
  3. Click the drop-down menu and select Layer Blur.
  4. Tap the Effect Settings icon to open blur adjustment options.
  5. Specify your preferred blur level and enter it into the input field.
  6. The blur effect is now applied to the selected Figma layer.

📌 Why this matters

Applying a Layer Blur in Figma gives designers precise control over depth, focus, and visual hierarchy directly within their design workflow. The built-in Effects panel makes it easy to add and fine-tune blur intensity on any layer without leaving the canvas or using third-party tools. This native blur feature helps teams produce polished, production-ready UI designs faster, whether for frosted-glass effects, background de-emphasis, or motion-inspired layouts.
