Use this interactive demo to learn how to insert and customize emojis in your Notion pages.

Quick summary

Notion lets you add emojis anywhere on a page — either as a page icon or inline using a quick colon shortcut. You can also set a global skin tone that applies to all applicable emojis across your workspace.

Steps

  1. Hover over your page title and click Add icon to add an emoji icon to the heading.
  2. Click the Skin tone icon on the right side of the emoji search bar.
  3. Select your desired skin tone from the available options.
  4. Confirm that your selected skin tone now reflects on all applicable emojis across your page.
  5. To insert an emoji inline anywhere on the page, type a colon (:) followed by the emoji name, such as :wave or :car.
  6. Select an emoji from the list of results to insert it into your content.
  7. Your emojis are now live and visible on your Notion page.

📌 Why this matters

Adding emojis in Notion is a simple but powerful way to make pages more visually engaging, easier to scan, and personally expressive. The inline colon shortcut lets users insert emojis without leaving the keyboard, keeping writing flow fast and efficient. The skin tone setting ensures consistent, inclusive representation across every emoji on a page. For teams using Notion as a central workspace, these small customizations meaningfully improve readability and page organization.
