Quick summary
You can make flashcards in Notion by creating an inline database and switching its layout to Board view, turning each card into an expandable, editable flashcard. This workaround requires no third-party tools and works entirely within Notion's native database features.
Steps
- Create a new page in Notion and enter a title for your flashcard set.
- Use the slash command (/database) to search for and insert an inline database.
- Enter a name for your new database.
- Click the three dotted icon to open more database options.
- Click on the Layout option in the menu.
- Select the layout type Board to switch the database to board view.
- Use the cross icon or click elsewhere to close the layout panel.
- Click on a card to open and edit it — each card expands like a flashcard.
- Enter the card title at the top and add a description or additional content inside the card.
- Click anywhere outside the expanded card view to close it.
- Continue adding more cards to build out your flashcard deck.
- Each card will function as a flashcard — click to reveal the full content on demand.
