Use this interactive demo to learn how to add crop marks in your Adobe InDesign documents.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to add crop marks in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To add crop marks to your project for printing, go to the top menu and click 'File.'
  2. Select 'Adobe PDF Presets' and choose any preset that suits your needs.
  3. Choose the location where you want your file to be exported.
  4. The Export Adobe PDF panel will open. Go to 'Marks and Bleed' to customize the final settings before printing.
  5. Check 'Crop Marks' in the panel, adjust any other needed settings, then click 'Export.'Crop marks are now added to your InDesign project.

📌 Why this matters

Crop marks ensure your printed materials cut precisely where intended, eliminating white borders or trimmed content that plague professional documents. You're essentially creating a communication bridge between your design vision and the print shop's machinery.

Beyond basic trimming guidance, crop marks reveal design flaws before printing—elements too close to edges, bleeds that don't extend properly, or layouts that won't translate well to physical format. This preview prevents costly reprints and maintains the exact spacing and proportions you designed digitally.
