‍

‍

Here’s how to add Copilot to GitHub:

‍

  1. First, open the extension view in VS Code by clicking the gear icon in the bottom left corner.
  2. Now, select "Extensions" from the menu to browse available add-ons.
  3. Type "GitHub Copilot" in the search bar to find the extension quickly.
  4. Hit "Install" on the official GitHub Copilot extension.
  5. Click "Allow" to grant the necessary permissions and keep things moving.
  6. Mark the features you want as "Done" to complete the installation.
  7. Once installed, click your profile icon in the bottom left to proceed.
  8. Select "Sign in to use AI features" to connect your GitHub account.
  9. Choose your preferred sign-in method.
  10. Click "Continue" to confirm your choice and move forward.
  11. Finally, select "Authorize Visual-Studio-Code" to wrap up the setup and start coding with Copilot.

📌 Why this matters

Adding Copilot transforms your coding from writing every line manually to having an AI pair programmer that suggests entire functions, fixes bugs, and explains complex code in plain English.

Beyond faster development, you gain access to patterns and solutions from millions of repositories that would take years to encounter naturally. This creates a compound learning effect where you absorb best practices while building, making you not just more productive but a significantly better developer over time.
