Use this interactive demo to learn how to add anchor points in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to add anchor points in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To add and use anchor points in your InDesign project, go to the left sidebar and click the 'Pen' tool.
  2. Using the Pen tool, click on the screen to create a small point that will serve as your starting anchor point.
  3. Add another point to see a line connect between the two points. Continue adding points until you form a shape.
  4. Close your path by clicking the starting point to seal the gap. You have successfully added and used anchor points in your InDesign project.

📌 Why this matters

Adding anchor points lets you create custom vector shapes, logos, and precise illustrations directly within your layout instead of switching between applications. You can build everything from simple geometric elements to complex brand graphics that scale perfectly at any size.

Beyond basic shape creation, anchor points give you surgical control over text wrap boundaries and clipping paths, allowing you to flow text around irregular objects with pixel-perfect precision that automated tools simply can't match.
