How to Add an Authenticator to 1Password

This tutorial shows how to secure your 1Password account with two-factor authentication using an authenticator app like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.

Note: You'll need a mobile authenticator app installed on your phone before starting this process.

1. Go to 1password.com  in your browser and sign in to your account. Alternatively, click the 1Password icon in your browser toolbar to sign in.
2. Click your account name in the top-right corner of the page, then select "Manage Account" from the dropdown.
3. In the Manage Account page, click "More Actions," then select "Manage Two-Factor Authentication"  in the sidebar on the left.
4. Click "Set Up App." 1Password displays a QR code on the screen.
   Note: 1Password also displays a 16-character secret key next to the QR code. Save this in a secure offline location in case you lose access to your authenticator app.
5. Open your authenticator app on your phone and scan the QR code. The app will begin generating six-digit codes for your 1Password account.
6. Enter the six-digit code from your authenticator app into the confirmation field on 1Password, then click "Confirm" to complete the setup.
