Quick summary
Adding an accountant in Xero takes just a few steps: navigate to Settings, use the Invite a User flow, assign Advisor permissions, and send the invite — giving your accountant instant access once accepted.
Steps
- On Xero's main dashboard, head to the top-left corner and click the Company tab.
- Choose Settings from the list of options.
- Click Users to proceed to the user management screen.
- Tap Invite a User at the top-right corner.
- Enter the required user information — the accountant's name and email address — into their respective input fields.
- Scroll down to the Permissions section and tick the checkbox beside Business and Accounting.
- Select the Advisor tab to assign the appropriate accountant role.
- Tick the checkbox beside any additional access you want to grant your accountant, such as bank account admin.
- Optionally, select Add a Message under the Personalize the Invite section to include a custom note.
- Review your input and click Send Invite to dispatch the invitation.
- Once the invite is accepted, your accountant will be added as a user to your Xero organization.
