Quick summary
This demo shows how to build a Zapier automation that connects GitLab and Jira, so that code events like new tags or merge requests automatically create or update Jira issues. Setting up this Zap eliminates manual release tracking and keeps your project management in sync with your development workflow.
Steps
- Log in to Zapier, click "Create", and select "Zaps" to begin.
- Click "Trigger", then search for GitLab and select it as the trigger app.
- Choose a trigger event, such as "New Tag" or "New Merge Request."
- Connect your GitLab account to authorize Zapier access.
- Select the Group and Project to monitor for changes.
- Run a test to ensure Zapier detects the trigger correctly.
- Add Jira as the Action App in your Zap.
- Select an action event, such as "Create Issue" or "Update Issue."
- Connect your Jira account to authorize Zapier access.
- Map GitLab data (e.g., tag name, commit message) to the corresponding Jira fields.
- Run a test to verify that GitLab updates correctly trigger Jira releases.
