Verifying domain ownership in Ahrefs confirms that you control a website so Ahrefs can unlock full Site Audit data and accurate crawl results. You can verify via Google Search Console import or by adding a TXT DNS record through your domain name provider.
Steps
- Navigate to Site Audit and click Create to start a new project.
- Click the Import button to import your site from Google Search Console (GSC).
- Grant View Search Console and See and download Google Analytics data access, then click Continue.
- Click the Import button to confirm and pull in your GSC data.
- If you don't have Google Search Console access, click Add Manually instead.
- Enter your website Domain name and click Continue — you should see an alert confirming your domain is accessible.
- Copy the provided HTML verification code.
- Log in to your Domain Name Provider (e.g. Bluehost, GoDaddy, Cloudflare) and open the Manage DNS Records page.
- Create a new TXT record in the DNS Records page of your domain provider.
- Paste your Domain name in the Name column and the copied verification code in the Value column.
- Return to Ahrefs and click Recheck Status — if the Ownership Verified alert doesn't appear, wait a few hours and recheck again.
