Use this interactive demo to learn how to turn off the grid in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to turn off modular grid in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To remove a modular grid in Adobe InDesign, go to the top menu and click 'Layout.'
  2. From the menu, select 'Create Guides' to open the Guides panel.
  3. Once the panel opens, enable 'Remove Existing Ruler Guides' located at the bottom of the panel.
  4. Click 'OK' to remove the grid and see the changes applied in real time on the document.

📌 Why this matters

Removing grids gives you complete creative freedom to design layouts without structural constraints. While grids are excellent for maintaining consistency across multi-page documents, they can limit your ability to create unique, organic compositions that break conventional rules.

You might need this when designing artistic spreads, promotional materials, or any project where visual impact trumps systematic organization. Grids also create visual clutter on screen when you're fine-tuning spacing and alignment manually, so removing them helps you see your design with fresh eyes and make more intuitive positioning decisions.
