Quick summary
YouTube auto-translates video titles when your account language differs from a video's original language or when your browser translation overrides your preferences. You can stop this by setting your preferred language in YouTube Settings and disabling browser-level translation in Chrome or Safari.
Steps
- Go to youtube.com, sign in to your account, then click your profile picture in the top-right corner.
- Select Language from the dropdown menu.
- Confirm your preferred language is set correctly — for example, English (US). YouTube auto-translates titles when your account language differs from the video's original language.
- Click your profile picture again and select Settings.
- Click Playback and performance in the left sidebar, then click Add or edit languages.
- Confirm your preferred display language is selected to prevent automatic translations based on location or browser settings.
- If titles are still being translated, check your browser's built-in translation settings, as Chrome or Safari may translate the page independently of YouTube.
- Disable translation for your browser while you use youtube.com to ensure your language preferences are not overridden.
