How to Stop YouTube from Showing Shorts

Use this interactive demo to learn how to reduce YouTube Shorts in your feed.

Quick summary

YouTube does not offer a single setting to completely block Shorts, but you can use the "Not interested" option and "Show fewer Shorts" to significantly reduce how often they appear on your Home feed. The more feedback you give YouTube, the better it learns to adjust your recommendations.

Steps

  1. Go to youtube.com and sign in to your account.
  2. On the homepage, find a Short you want to stop seeing, hover over it, then click the three-dot menu.
  3. Select Not interested to remove that Short from your recommendations.
  4. Repeat this for other Shorts you want to reduce — the more feedback you give, the more YouTube adjusts your feed.
  5. To see fewer Shorts overall, go to the Shorts section, click the three-dot menu, then select Show fewer Shorts.
  6. Confirm the prompt — this reduces Shorts in your Home recommendations over time, but does not remove the Shorts feature entirely from YouTube.

📌 Why this matters

YouTube Shorts can clutter your Home feed if you prefer long-form content, making it harder to find the videos you actually want to watch. By using the "Not interested" signal and the "Show fewer Shorts" control, users can actively train YouTube's recommendation algorithm to surface more relevant content. These built-in feedback tools give viewers meaningful control over their feed without requiring third-party extensions or workarounds. Understanding how to reduce Shorts recommendations helps users reclaim a cleaner, more personalized YouTube experience.
