How to Speed up in Adobe InDesign

Use this interactive demo to learn how to speed up your workflow in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s simple and  a quick trick on how to speed up in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To improve performance (speed up) in Adobe InDesign, go to the top menu and click 'InDesign.'
  2. From the menu, select 'Preferences' → 'Display Performance,'
  3. When the Preferences panel opens, set the Default View to 'Fast.'‍
  4. Once done, click 'OK' to apply changes.

📌 Why this matters

When you're working with complex layouts containing high-resolution images, detailed graphics, or multiple pages, your computer struggles to render every visual element in real-time. This creates frustrating delays when scrolling, zooming, or making edits.

Switching to Fast display mode sacrifices some visual fidelity during editing by showing simplified previews instead of full-quality renders. The performance boost becomes especially valuable during tight deadlines when you need to focus on layout structure and text flow rather than pixel-perfect image quality, which you'll still see in the final output.
