Use this interactive demo to learn how to open two Microsoft Project files side by side.

‍

‍

Here’s how to do it:

‍

  1. Launch MS Project and open the file you want to work with.
  2. Now, let's open a second project file. From the current window, navigate to the "File" tab in the top-left corner.
  3. Browse to locate your second project file. Select it to load it in a new window.
  4. Click on the "View" tab in the ribbon.
  5. Then, find and select "Arrange All" in the "Window" group.
  6. Both project files are now displayed side by side. You can adjust the divider between them by clicking and dragging to resize each window as needed.

📌 Why this matters

Opening two project files side by side lets you compare timelines, resource allocations, and task dependencies across different projects without constantly switching windows. This becomes particularly valuable when you're managing related projects that share resources or have interdependent deliverables.

You can instantly spot scheduling conflicts, identify opportunities to optimize resource usage across projects, and ensure milestone alignment. The real advantage emerges when making cross-project decisions – you can see how adjusting one project's timeline immediately impacts your capacity to deliver on another.
