‍

‍

Here are the easy and correct ways to move columns in Microsoft Project:

‍

  1. Open your Microsoft Project file.
  2. Select the column heading of the column you want to move.
  3. Then, look for cross arrows in the column. Click on your mouse and hold.
  4. Once done, slowly drag your mouse to the left and you and already see a dark gray line.
  5. Once done, slowly drag your mouse to the left. You will see a dark gray line. You can now choose the place where you want to move your column.
  6. That's it! The column has been moved to the new position.

📌 Why this matters

Moving columns lets you arrange your project data in the order that matches your workflow and priorities. You can position critical information like deadlines or resource assignments where you'll see them first, reducing the mental overhead of constantly scanning across multiple columns.

This seemingly simple customization actually transforms how efficiently you process project information during reviews and updates. When your most relevant data appears in logical sequence, you make faster decisions and catch potential issues before they become problems.
