How to Message Subscribers on YouTube

Use this interactive demo to learn how to reach your YouTube subscribers with Community posts.

Quick summary

YouTube does not offer direct messaging to subscribers, but Community posts in YouTube Studio are the built-in way to broadcast updates, polls, and discussions to your entire audience. This step-by-step demo shows you how to create, enrich, publish, and engage with a Community post from start to finish.

Steps

  1. Go to studio.youtube.com and sign in to your channel.
  2. Click Create in the top-right corner and select Create post — Community posts are YouTube's built-in alternative to direct messaging subscribers.
  3. In the post editor, type your message or discussion topic.
  4. Add an image, GIF, poll, or video link to encourage more interaction and replies from subscribers.
  5. Click Post to publish immediately, or use the dropdown next to Post to schedule it for later.
  6. Once published, subscribers can reply to the post from your channel's Community tab or from their YouTube feed.
  7. Reply to subscriber comments to keep the discussion active and make your Community post feel like an ongoing conversation or thread.

📌 Why this matters

YouTube does not provide a native direct-message feature, making Community posts the most effective way for creators to communicate directly with their subscriber base at scale. Using the Community tab in YouTube Studio, creators can share updates, run polls, attach media, and schedule posts — all without leaving the platform. Engaging subscribers through Community posts boosts channel visibility in the YouTube feed, driving higher watch time and audience retention. For any creator or brand looking to grow engagement, mastering Community posts is an essential YouTube channel management skill.
