Use this interactive demo to learn how to link pages in Adobe InDesign.

‍

‍

Here’s a simple and quick guide on how to link pages in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To link pages in Adobe InDesign, go to the top menu and click 'Window.'
  2. From the menu, select 'Interactive' → 'Hyperlinks' to open the Hyperlinks panel.
  3. Select the text or object that should act as the link, then click the '+' icon at the bottom of the Hyperlinks panel.
  4. A New Hyperlink dialog box will open. From the 'Link To:' dropdown menu, choose 'Page.'
  5. Choose the page you want the text or object to direct to when clicked. Once finished, click 'OK,' then export your document and test the link.

📌 Why this matters

Linking pages transforms static documents into interactive experiences where readers can jump between sections instantly. You can create sophisticated navigation systems for annual reports, portfolios, or user manuals without cluttering layouts with traditional menus.

This becomes particularly powerful when combined with bookmarks and cross-references, allowing you to build documents that function more like websites than traditional print materials. The real advantage emerges when you realize these internal links work seamlessly across PDF exports, maintaining interactivity regardless of how recipients view your document.
