Use this interactive demo to learn how to connect and sync cells across Smartsheet sheets.

Quick summary

Linking cells in Smartsheet lets you pull live data from one sheet into another, keeping information automatically in sync without manual updates. Use the built-in Cell Linking feature to create a source-cell connection across sheets directly from the Grid View.

Steps

  1. Open your sheet in Smartsheet's Grid View and select the destination cell where the linked data should appear.
  2. Navigate to the top menu bar and click the More Options button.
  3. Tap Cell Linking from the dropdown to open the cell linking panel.
  4. Choose the source sheet that contains the cell you want to link from.
  5. Browse the selected sheet and click the source cell you want to use as the data origin.
  6. Click Create Link to confirm and establish the cell link.
  7. The source cell from the other sheet is now linked to your destination cell and will stay in sync automatically.

📌 Why this matters

Smartsheet's Cell Linking feature enables teams to automatically sync data across multiple sheets without manual copy-pasting, reducing errors and saving time. When a source cell is updated, all linked destination cells reflect the change in real time, ensuring data consistency across projects. This is especially valuable for project managers and operations teams who maintain shared dashboards or roll-up reports pulling data from multiple sources. Cell linking in Smartsheet helps organizations maintain a single source of truth across complex, multi-sheet workflows.
