Quick summary
A YouTube copyright strike lets content owners request removal of videos that use their original work without permission, directly through YouTube Studio. This step-by-step process walks you through identifying infringing content, submitting a formal copyright removal request, and tracking its status.
Steps
- Go to studio.youtube.com and click Copyright in the left sidebar.
- Review the matched videos, confirm the video uses your content, select it, then click Request Removal.
- Check and enter the infringing video URL and your original content details (auto-filled or added manually if needed).
- Fill in your details as the copyright owner, including name and email address.
- Choose a removal option: 7-day notice or Standard removal (immediate), and optionally enable Prevent future copies.
- Agree to the terms, enter your full legal name, then click Submit.
- Track your request under Removal requests to monitor its status (under review or removed).
