Use this interactive demo to learn how to activate Microsoft Copilot inside your SharePoint documents.

Quick summary

Microsoft Copilot can be integrated with SharePoint to answer questions and summarize content directly from your organization's documents. Once connected, the Copilot chat panel uses SharePoint file content to generate accurate, context-aware responses without leaving the document.

Steps

  1. Open your Microsoft Copilot account and go to 'Apps'.
  2. Select 'SharePoint' from the available app options.
  3. Open a SharePoint site to access its content.
  4. Navigate to the 'Documents' section within the SharePoint site.
  5. Choose and open a document from the documents library.
  6. Click the Copilot icon from the document toolbar to launch the assistant.
  7. In the Copilot chat panel, type or select your question — for example, 'summarize this document'.
  8. Click the arrow icon to submit your query to Copilot.
  9. Review the response — Copilot now answers questions using your SharePoint content.

📌 Why this matters

Integrating Microsoft Copilot with SharePoint allows organizations to unlock AI-powered insights directly from their existing document libraries, eliminating the need to switch between tools. Users can ask natural language questions and receive instant, context-aware answers grounded in their SharePoint content, dramatically reducing time spent searching for information. This integration is especially valuable for teams managing large volumes of documentation who need faster access to key information. For Microsoft 365 users, enabling Copilot on SharePoint is one of the most impactful ways to boost productivity and maximize their existing investment in the Microsoft ecosystem.
