Use this interactive demo to learn how to configure field-level security for a profile in Salesforce.

Quick summary

In Salesforce, field access is managed through Field-Level Security settings inside the Object Manager, allowing admins to control which profiles can view or edit specific fields. This demo walks you through the exact steps to grant or restrict field visibility by profile using the Advanced Setup menu.

Steps

  1. Click the gear icon at the top-right menu of the dashboard to open settings.
  2. Select Open Advanced Setup from the dropdown menu.
  3. Go to Object Manager and select an object to configure.
  4. Choose Fields & Relationships from the object's sidebar menu.
  5. Choose a field from the list to manage its access settings.
  6. Click Set Field-Level Security to open the security configuration panel.
  7. Set Field-Level Security to determine which users see fields as visible or read-only by checking each profile field according to your preference.
  8. Once done, click Save to apply the changes.

📌 Why this matters

Salesforce Field-Level Security gives admins granular control over which user profiles can view or edit specific CRM fields, ensuring sensitive data is protected and compliance requirements are met. Without proper field access configuration, users may see data they shouldn't — creating security gaps and audit risks. This feature is essential for any organization that uses role-based access control within Salesforce to enforce data governance at the field level. Correctly setting field visibility by profile directly reduces unauthorized data exposure and keeps your CRM data clean and compliant.
