Use this interactive demo to learn how to set up and run a site crawl in Ahrefs Site Audit.

Quick summary

Ahrefs Site Audit lets you crawl your website to detect technical SEO issues, broken links, and on-page errors. Setting up a new crawl project takes just a few minutes and can be scheduled to run automatically at a custom frequency.

Steps

  1. Go to Ahrefs and click on Site Audit in the top navigation.
  2. Click New Project to begin creating a crawl project.
  3. Import data using Google Search Console to enrich the crawl with existing performance data.
  4. If you lack Search Console access, click Add manually to enter your site details directly.
  5. Enter your website URL, give the project an appropriate Project name, then hit Continue.
  6. Click Continue to skip the Search Console data step if it was not completed in the previous step.
  7. Toggle the Frequency setting to schedule how often future crawls will run automatically.
  8. Ensure Run first crawl now is turned ON, then click Continue to start the initial crawl.
  9. The website crawl will begin — note that this is a lengthy process that can take up to an hour or more to complete.
  10. Once the crawl finishes, open your project in Site Audit to review all detected issues.

📌 Why this matters

Ahrefs Site Audit is a powerful technical SEO tool that automatically crawls your entire website to surface critical issues such as broken links, duplicate content, slow pages, and missing metadata. Running regular site crawls helps SEO professionals and site owners proactively identify and fix problems before they impact search rankings. The ability to import data from Google Search Console and schedule recurring crawls makes it easy to maintain a healthy, well-optimized site over time. For teams managing large or complex websites, Ahrefs Site Audit delivers actionable, prioritized insights that directly support higher organic visibility and better crawl efficiency.
