‍

Here’s simple and  a quick guide on how to format text in Adobe InDesign:

‍

  1. To format text in Adobe InDesign, use the Type Tool to select the text or paragraph, which will activate its properties.
  2. In the Properties panel, you can use Paragraph and Character Styles to customize the formatting of your document. These styles can be opened from the Window menu or may appear by default on the right side of the workspace.
  3. Character Styles allow you to format fonts with many options from the dropdown menu, including adjustments for font size, kerning, and tracking.‍
  4. Under Paragraph Styles, you can find options for paragraph indentation and alignment. You can also access borders, bullets, and other paragraph formatting features through these styles.

📌 Why this matters

Proper text formatting transforms scattered content into professional, readable documents that communicate authority and credibility. Beyond making text look polished, consistent formatting creates visual hierarchy that guides readers through complex information effortlessly.

Character and paragraph styles become time-saving powerhouses when you're working with multi-page documents or brand guidelines—change one style definition and every instance updates automatically across your entire project. This systematic approach prevents formatting inconsistencies that plague manual text adjustments and ensures your design maintains professional standards even under tight deadlines.
