Use this interactive demo to learn how to export Power BI visual data as a CSV file.

Quick summary

This demo shows how to export data from a Power BI visual to a CSV file using the built-in Export data option. In just a few clicks from the Report View, you can download your visual's underlying data for use in Excel or any other tool.

Steps

  1. In the Power BI Report View, hover over the visual you want to export.
  2. Click the three dots (more options menu) in the top-right corner of the visual.
  3. Select Export data from the dropdown menu.
  4. In the export dialog, set the file format to CSV and click Save.
  5. Open the downloaded file — the CSV file will be saved to your system automatically.

📌 Why this matters

Exporting Power BI data to CSV is a critical workflow for analysts and business users who need to share, manipulate, or archive report data outside of Power BI. The built-in Export data feature lets you extract the underlying dataset from any visual in just a few clicks, without needing admin privileges or third-party tools. This makes it easy to move Power BI insights into Excel, Python, or any downstream data process. Knowing this workflow helps teams get more value from their Power BI reports without losing access to the raw numbers.
