Use this interactive demo to learn how to export a Power BI visual directly to an Excel file.

Quick summary

You can export Power BI dashboard data to Excel in just a few clicks using the built-in Export data option on any visual. The process saves your data as a .xlsx or CSV file directly to your computer without leaving Power BI.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the dashboard page that contains the visual or table you want to export.
  2. Click the three dots (more options menu) in the top-right corner of the visual.
  3. Select Export data from the dropdown menu.
  4. Choose CSV as the file format and click Save to begin the download.
  5. Once the export is complete, a .xlsx file will be saved to your computer.

📌 Why this matters

Exporting Power BI dashboard data to Excel gives analysts and business users the flexibility to perform deeper ad-hoc analysis, share raw data with stakeholders who don't have Power BI access, and archive snapshots of key metrics. The built-in Export data feature requires no third-party tools and works directly on any visual or table within a report. This capability bridges the gap between interactive BI reporting and spreadsheet-based workflows, making it essential for teams that rely on both Power BI and Excel for data-driven decision-making.
