This demo shows you how to download a YouTube transcript without third-party tools by using YouTube's built-in Show transcript feature and saving the text via Google Docs. In just a few steps, you can copy, paste, and export the transcript as a plain text or Word file.
Steps
- Open the YouTube video you want to transcribe in your browser.
- Click the three-dot more menu below the video player to reveal additional options.
- Locate and click the Show transcript button to open the transcript panel.
- In the transcript panel, click the three-dot menu and select Toggle timestamps to hide them, then select and copy the text.
- Paste the transcript into your Google Doc or preferred online text editor.
- Click File > Download and select Plain Text (.txt) or Microsoft Word (.docx) to download the transcript file.
